One-to-One Instruction

One-to-one time at the bench is the most direct way to make progress in woodworking. There are no other students to pace yourself against, no fixed syllabus to keep up with, and no question too basic or too specific to ask.

Every session is led by you — your tools, your current sticking points, your goals. If you are a complete beginner wanting a thorough grounding in hand tool fundamentals, we can work through that methodically. If you are a more experienced maker with a specific technique to develop, a piece you are struggling with, or simply a habit you want to break, we can focus exactly where it matters.

The session goes at your pace, and we do not move on until you are comfortable.

Before we meet at the bench, we will have a short conversation — either in person or over the phone — to make sure our time together is well spent. That chat gives me a clear sense of where you are, what you are using, and what you want to achieve. It also gives you the chance to ask anything before you arrive.

One-to-one sessions are available as a full day or as a series of shorter sessions, and can cover any of the class subjects — Getting Started in Woodworking, Get Sharp!, any of the Foundations of Woodworking courses,  even a Project Based Class— or something entirely specific to your own projects and interests.

Full day: 10:00 until 17:00, with a lunch break. Evening and weekend sessions are also available.
